Letters to the Editor

Letters to the Editor: New Israel Fund, murder, two-state solution

I’ve spent 20-plus years as a working peacenik on the board of the New Israel Fund and Israel Policy Forum and even served as president of Americans for Peace Now, and I find it quite painful to admit that I agree with much of Rob Eshman’s editorial (“Two-State Attrition,” Dec. 14). There certainly is no reality to Peace Now now.

Letters to the Editor: Bill Maher, Witold Pilecki, ‘Lincoln’

I didn’t get around to reading the Dec. 7 issue of the Jewish Journal until late last night, and when I saw the Danielle Berrin column, “Q&A With Bill Maher,” the words of Joseph Welch came to mind when he said to despicable Sen. Joe McCarthy, “Have you no sense of decency, sir?”

Letters to the Editor: Gordis, Brous, Fiscal Cliff

I think that the strongest refutation of Rabbi Daniel Gordis (“When Balance Becomes Betrayal,” Nov. 30) and also of David Suissa (“War and Bickering,” Nov. 30) came from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), who brilliantly used impressive intelligence gathering and precision bombing to minimize civilian casualties and thus avoided what most often happens with Israel in asymmetrical warfare — namely that Israel wins the military battle and loses the political war.

Letter to the Editor: Town hall on religious pluralism

I want to thank Rob Eshman for his review of the important Town Hall on Religious Pluralism that took place at Temple Emanuel last week and for his moderating a community conversation in which people have such passionate and diverse opinions.

Letter to the Editor: It’s a demographic cliff; not a fiscal cliff

Last week, (16-22 Kislev) Mark Pearlman wrote an erudite proposal for minding the Jewish communal coffers. He asks how we can adequately fund an engaging and vibrant Jewish community. Eight causes are given for the fiscal deterioration of the community. Unfortunately he missed entirely the main and intractable cause: not enough Jewish children.

Letters to the Editor: Gaza war, “Lincoln” and Special Needs

When David Suissa wonders “If Hamas had the ability to murder thousands of Jews, wouldn’t they?” he is letting stereotypes get in the way of helpful analysis (“Pogroms Interrupted,” Nov. 23). He is also, in effect, arguing that Hamas is not an organization with which peace and order can be reached.

Letters to the Editor: Prager’s Politics, Bassoonist Has Storied Career

Dennis Prager has again conveniently and simplistically divided his world into good and bad, conservative Republicans being good, liberal Democrats being bad (“A Jew Tours for Romney,” Nov. 2). He then uses this formulation to claim that the conservative Republicans more ardently favor Jews and Israel, than do the liberal Democrats.
